Period 5-6
In the famous know story Romeo & Juliet two lovers had killed themselves because of their love, but did you know Teen Suicide is a major cause of death. Teen suicide increased over years, and what does that say about us? Are we doing something wrong? Did we put to many pressures on to teens? Well in this passage I will explain to you what you can do, why, and how we can prevent it.
In today’s society there has been lots of pressure put down on teens. Things like failure at school, break-ups, and death of loved ones, divorce, or a major family conflict can lead to suicide.
Substance abuse teens believe that it’s too difficult to overcome the abuse, so they try to end it for good. Substance abuse is excessive use of drugs or alcohol.
Suicide can be caused by changes at home; one of the main reasons is divorce. The teen feels like it’s there fault that it happened, (but sometimes it is).
Also domestic violence is another cause. First domestic violence is abuse towards family, and teens kill themselves because of it. Even when the abuse isn’t aimed at them, they feel that it can be desirable to escape. To troubled teens it’s a way out of this difficult situation.
Financial problems make them feel embarrassed by the lack of it. And they feel they can “help” by reducing costs associated with the house.
Students that are usually pressured to do well in school attempt suicide. They do it so they can stand a better chance of college scholarships, and awards.
Death of loved one teen does this because they love the person to the extremes of their life. Like in “Romeo & Juliet” they both kill themselves because Romeo thought Juliet was dead so he killed himself, then Juliet killed her self because of his death.
Teen suicides have increased in our time, and people say it’s all the pressures in teen life.
19.3% of high school students considered suicide,
14.5% of high school students planned out how to kill themselves,
The National Conference of State Legislatures released this information. Deaths are usually between (15-24) it increased 6%, but deaths for (10-14) increased 100%.
There are tons of warning signs you can see troubling a teen before they attempt suicide. There could be something up if they talk about suicide or death, or about “going away”. Like in the scene in “Romeo & Juliet” when Romeo hears the news of Juliet’s “death”.
They also might pull away from family and friends, or lose the desire to favorite things and activities. They usually can’t concentrate and might certain change habits. Sometimes they might have self-destructive behavior such as using drugs.
To prevent it you have to talk to the teen about suicide, if you make the issue more open it might be able to prevent it. If you show that you care and put effort to show you’re by they side, they’ll feel love. And show them that you’ll go through the problem together, but you’ll first have to let them know that you’re willing. Listening let them express their feelings and let them let them show the problem. And definitely don’t keep weapons at home, make sure to not let them near things that could kill them and never leave the problem unsolved.
There could’ve been ways to prevent the death of Romeo and Juliet. They could’ve waited in till Romeo had gotten the letter, or he could’ve stop and thought about what would happen is he had killed himself. Or if someone had calmed him down and talked to him and talked to him about it.
Teen suicide, teens have been put under pressure in today’s society. Keeping up at school, social life, and home. If something dramatic happens it could be devastating to them. There was a time when I’ve thought of suicide but in stead I thought about who I’ll be hurting, and what future I could’ve destroyed. Times are hard I know for a fact, yet life has more meaning into it it’s just life is always unexpected. And you need to deal with it, it sounds mean I know but it’s the truth. I hope this can help someone that’s feeling horrible, or close to suicide.
